Introduction | Inleiding

Snappit is an educational app that helps learners learn at home. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it. Snappit processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”).

Snappit is ’n opvoedkundige app wat leerders help om tuis te leer. Hierdie Privaatheidsbeleid verduidelik watter inligting ons insamel, waarom ons dit insamel en hoe ons dit beskerm. Snappit verwerk persoonlike inligting in ooreenstemming met die Wet op die Beskerming van Persoonlike Inligting, 2013 (“POPIA”).

What information we collect | Watter inligting ons insamel

Snappit deliberately collects as little information as possible:

• Parent/guardian’s email address — to contact you about updates and support.

• The learner’s name — only for administration and to welcome the learner on the app. This is optional. A learner may use any name, letter or number instead of their real name.

• Learning activity — including test results, progress and activity on the app, so that the learner and parent can track progress.

• Questions to Study Buddy — if a learner uses Snappit’s Study Buddy, the learner’s typed questions are processed by an automated language-processing system to generate an answer limited to Snappit’s approved learning content. An automated safety check is in place. If a question indicates possible distress or inappropriate content, the parent/guardian automatically receives an email notification.

• Vrae aan Study Buddy — as ’n leerder Snappit se Study Buddy gebruik, word die leerder se getikte vrae deur ’n outomatiese taal-verwerkingstelsel verwerk om ’n antwoord te genereer wat beperk is tot Snappit se goedgekeurde leerinhoud. ’n Outomatiese veiligheidskontrole is in plek. Indien ’n vraag dui op moontlike nood of onvanpaste inhoud, ontvang die ouer/voog outomaties ’n kennisgewing per e-pos.

Children’s information and consent | Kinders se inligting en toestemming

POPIA defines a child as anyone younger than 18 years old. Processing a child’s personal information is prohibited without the prior consent of a competent person, being the parent or legal guardian. The parent/guardian provides this consent during registration.

The information is used only for the purposes described above. Snappit will not:

• sell your information;

• use it for third-party marketing; or

• share it with anyone except where necessary to provide the service.

Where information is stored | Waar inligting gestoor word

Snappit’s app and data are hosted on the Base44 platform, which acts as an operator on Snappit’s behalf. Base44’s servers are currently located in the United States of America, so personal information is transferred to and stored in the US. By giving consent during registration, the parent/guardian also expressly consents to this cross-border transfer as required by Section 72 of POPIA. Snappit takes reasonable steps, including contractual safeguards with Base44, to keep the information secure regardless of where it is stored.

You have the right at any time to request access to your information, correct it, have it deleted, or withdraw your consent. Send any such request to snappitapp@gmail.com. If consent is withdrawn, the relevant information will be removed and the learner’s access to the app may be terminated.

U het die reg om enige tyd toegang tot u inligting te versoek, dit reg te stel, dit te laat verwyder, of u toestemming te onttrek. Stuur enige sodanige versoek aan snappitapp@gmail.com. Indien toestemming onttrek word, sal die betrokke inligting verwyder word en kan die leerder se toegang tot die app beëindig word.
